Hey, we’re Misty & Lisa!
Hey! We’re Misty and Lisa – two best friends who’ve ingested way too much self-help, and we’re here to share our hard-earned lessons with you.
We’re dedicated to helping you embrace authentic personal growth – without the pressure of toxic positivity or too-good-to-be-true quick fixes.
Because we believe self-help should actually… well… help.
Welcome to our little corner of the internet.

Self-Help Books Should Come With A Warning Label
HERE’S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU READ TOO MANY.
Six years ago, we started Go Help Yourself with the mission of making self-help more accessible, while also attempting to improve our own lives.
We thought we’d have a great time reading and sharing about productivity, relationships, finances, creativity… you know, the fun stuff.
But along the way, some big things happened…
A global pandemic broke out.
Family members died.
We battled with depression and anxiety.

Even though we had a vast number of tools in our self-help toolkit, nothing helped.
No amount of self-care, productivity hacking, or making our beds were making a real difference.
So we turned our attention wider than ourselves at the systems around us, and looked deeper than we ever had before.
But there was so much to learn and it felt totally overwhelming..
Over the course of recording 300+ episodes, reading hundreds of books, and a combined 25 years in therapy (+ trying every personal development method under the sun… seriously), the biggest thing we’ve learned about self-help is that
no one does anything alone.
That’s why we created the Go Help Yourself Community – the space that we wish existed when we were piecing our personal development together on our own – a place where self-help makes sense.

Misty Stinnett
Originally from Florida, Misty discovered a fierce love of self-help when she realized that she had everything she was told she needed in order to be happy, but wasn’t… and she wanted to know wtf was up with that.
She holds her Bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Pre-Medical Physical Sciences & Humanities, as well as minors in Women’s Studies and Theatre. She is currently training as an Integral Coach.
She’s here to mine what’s valuable and helpful about every self-help topic or idea, and is always game to try something new. She loves all things nature, slow-cooked meals, and anything to do with the moon – and is the kind of person who will create a podcast in her spare time to "relax.
Favorite Self Help Book: It depends on the category! But The Gifts of Imperfection by Brené Brown is one of my all-time faves.
What's On My Sticky Note: (inspirational quote)
My Theme Song: Pink Pony Club by Chappell Roan
Sippin' On Some: Iced Chagaccino with Oat Milk
Lisa Linke
Lisa is an actor, writer and podcast producer in Los Angeles. Midwestern to the bone, she's probably already best friends with your pets and made you a casserole. Her Midwestern nature also comes with a healthy dose of side-eye, and she does not like anyone telling her what to do — and lends healthy skepticism to the books and theories that sound too good (or too simple) to be true.
She has three degrees (a Bachelors in Sociology, minor in Psychology, and a joint degree, MBA & MA Human Resources & Industrial Relations) – but you can think of her as the friend who will tell you why that cup can’t be recycled or why capitalism is the reason you need a nap.
She’s a systems thinker, always looking to see how things are connected, and is the kind of person who will create a podcast in her spare time to "fight the self-help industrial complex."
Favorite Self Help Book: ???
What's On My Sticky Note: Be joyful, though you have considered all the facts
My Theme Song: This Is Life by Winnetka Bowling League
Sippin' On Some: Ice-cold grapefruit La Croix
